Movie Review: Zoolander (2001)

Most of what made Zoolander funny was its cast. It stars Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Will Ferrell as its main characters. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson were very entertaining as clueless models, but Will Ferrell wasn't very exciting. The plot is all over the place, so I will only say that there is brainwashing, modeling, and an assassination plot involved. Zoolander is deliberately silly, but it is also occasionally funny, which is hard to find in those types of movies. But there were as many (or more) misses as there were hits. Though it is flawed, I thought that it was pretty good overall, although it probably only appeals to a certain audience.

Movie Review: Chronicle (2012)

Chronicle is about three teens who venture into a cave and accidentally discover super powers. The main actors, Dan Deehan, Alex Russel, and Michael B. Jordan, all young and not famous, were perfect for their roles. This is a found footage film, so all the scenes are shot with the main character's camera or different security cameras. The movie didn't exactly need this feature, and it kind of slowed it down. I liked how the personalities of the boys changed so drastically during the movie, until they were completely different people.  It is the perfect example that power equals corruption. It was overall a very good movie, and the bond between the three main characters was particularly interesting. The climax was exciting. The ending was nice, too. But the movie is somewhat misleading, as the first half is mostly light and fun, while the last half is pretty dark. I recommend this movie.

Movie Review: The Marine (2006)

Today's movie was The Marine starring John Cena. He comes back home from Iraq to find his wife has been kidnapped by a group of diamond thieves on the run and he follows them around the South Carolinian wilderness to retrieve her. This was most likely the worst movie I have ever seen. It was laughably bad, and the attempts at humor were pathetic. John Cena is a inexperienced actor to begin with (12 Rounds, Fred: The Movie), and he is not any better with this movie. Also, The Marine is stock-full of plot holes, like how does Cena know were they were taking his wife even though there was no way to track her? I would not recommend this movie to anyone.

Movie Review: Ocean's Eleven (2001)

I thought Ocean's Eleven was very good. The plot is simple enough. A former thief is released on parole and gets a bunch of his old buddies together to steal $160 million from a Las Vegas casino. The heist was very creative and exciting, which makes up for the boring first half of the movie. The characters were very likable, and the actors portraying them (George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts) did an amazing job. Honestly, I can't think of anything else to say besides that this was a very memorable movie.

Movie Review: Big Daddy (1999)

Today I watched Big Daddy, with Adam Sandler. Like all of his movies, it was full of raunchy, obnoxious humor that was mostly unfunny, but still had its moments. Sandler did a decent job playing an immature dad, better than most of his parts. While the movie tried to be sweet, the attempt was squandered because it was so unsure of itself. You might actually be touched, but then Sandler would say something that completely ruined the moment. It might be funny to some, but personally it bothered me. This was probably my favorite Adam Sandler movie, but then again that's not saying much. At least it was better than The Waterboy.

Movie Review: The Bourne Legacy (2012)

I just saw the fourth in the Bourne series. This stars a new protagonist, Jeremy Raner as Arron Cross, so basically it didn't have much to do with the previous three. It was filled with cool action and a mostly strong plot, but I thought it suffered from the dull presentation and the dark, humorless manner. The ending was a let down too, but I won't spoil it. Jeremy Raner was great, and so were the other actors, though they didn't seem to have any recognizable personality traits, so they weren't very memorable. It was fun to watch and interesting, but you might find it a let down if you enjoyed Casino Royale (James Bond) or the first three Bourne movies.
